There was a letter in today's Everybody's Column of the Buffalo News that must have had the city's elite heading for their fainting couches.
On the way to work the other day, I noticed a new McDonald's had been built on McKinley Parkway near Bailey Avenue. It's a beautiful structure that took just a few months to construct and begin operation. Maybe McDonald's, Delta Sonic, Applebee's, Noco or TGIF Fridays could help coordinate our waterfront development. The letter-writer, whose idea makes perfectly good sense by the way, obviously hasn't spent time among Buffalo's movers and shakers. The very last things they want to see on the waterfront (or on Main Street for that matter) are the likes of Delta Sonic or Noco. That's not to say that I'd favor turning the Outer Harbor into another Transit Road, development can be supervised. But I suspect that the first reaction to his suggestion will be one of horror.
No, the Outer Harbor will be managed down to the last square foot and everyone will have to agree unanimously on the plan before the first shovel is turned. I fear it's meant be Buffalo's equivalent of Celebration (without the climate) and mundane necessities such as getting gas or washing the car will just have to be taken care of in Lackawanna.
